Don't be fooled by the size - a Cockapoo on a mission is a force to be reckoned with. Whether they're launching themselves at every dog on the pavement or charging headfirst into a muddy puddle, you need a collar that's up to the job.

For a smaller breed with a big personality, comfort is everything. Look for a collar that sits well against the neck without rubbing - especially important for Cockapoos, whose curly coats can cause friction with poorly finished hardware. Soft-lined collars with smooth edges are a great shout, and lighter hardware keeps things comfortable without sacrificing security.

For a breed as bouncy and enthusiastic as the Cockapoo, a well-fitted harness is a game changer. Cockapoos love to pull toward everything that excites them - which, let's be honest, is basically everything - so a harness that gives you gentle, comfortable control without any pressure on the throat is the smart move.

Look for a harness with a front-clip option to help redirect their attention mid-walk, and make sure it's adjustable enough to get a snug fit without restricting that characteristic Cockapoo swagger. Grooming considerations matter too - harsh webbing or poorly positioned straps can cause matting in their curly coats, so padded, smooth panels are worth looking for.

For everyday walks, a standard lead with a comfortable handle is your best friend. Cockapoos are light enough that hand fatigue isn't usually the issue - but a lead that gives you a clean, easy grip means you can redirect quickly when they spot something exciting.

For recall training and open space work, a long line of 5-10 metres gives your Cockapoo the freedom to explore while you work on that all-important recall. This breed is smart and responds well to training - the right lead just makes the process a whole lot easier.
