FAQs

What are the best dog toys for heavy chewers?

Natural rubber or ultra-tough nylon. Everything else is a snack. Rope toys and plush toys shred quickly and the ingested fibres or stuffing can cause intestinal blockages - not worth the risk for a dog with real jaw power. Our Indestructibone for heavy chewers are built to handle the bite pressure of powerful breeds: XL Bullies, Cane Corsos, Staffies - the dogs this brand was built for. If your dog can destroy most toys in a sitting, material matters more than design every single time.

What's the difference between a chew toy and an enrichment toy?

A chew toy is for the physical act of chewing, it satisfies the natural urge to gnaw, supports dental health, and redirects the chewing away from your furniture. An enrichment toy (puzzle feeders, snuffle mats, lick mats) is for the brain, slowing down eating, encouraging problem-solving, and reducing anxiety through focused mental engagement. Most dogs benefit from both. A dog who's been mentally tired out by a good enrichment session is a significantly calmer dog. BullyBillows stocks both across the toys and feeding ranges.

How do I mentally stimulate my dog?

Physical exercise tires the legs, mental exercise tires the brain: and a mentally tired dog is a genuinely calmer dog, often more so than one who's just been for a long walk. The easiest ways to mentally stimulate your dog include ‘enrichment puzzle feeders’ that make your dog work for their food, ‘snuffle mats’ that turn dinner into a nose-led treasure hunt, and ‘lick mats’ that slow everything down and trigger a calming response rather than a five-second inhale-and-done. Chew toys count too. The repetitive, focused act of working on an Indestructibone occupies a dog's brain in a way that standing around the garden simply doesn't. Rotate toys weekly so nothing goes stale, hide treats around the house for a sniffing session on rainy days, and mix in some basic training.

Are BullyBillows dog toys safe for puppies?

It depends on the toy and the puppy. Our Indestructibone is built for serious chew power, which makes it brilliant for adult dogs with a proper bite, however, it's not designed with baby teeth in mind. Puppy teeth and jaws are still developing, so look for softer, puppy-specific chew options until those adult teeth are fully through, usually around 6 months. Whatever you choose, supervision is non-negotiable. All our toys, puppy or adult, are intended to be used with your dog present and watched, not left as an unattended babysitter.

Does chewing on toy bones clean dogs teeth?

To an extent, yes, but it's not a replacement for a toothbrush. The mechanical action of gnawing on a firm chew toy helps scrape plaque off the tooth surface before it hardens into tartar, and it gives your dog's jaw and gums a proper workout in the process. Where it falls short is below the gumline and between teeth, the spots where dental disease actually starts and where no amount of enthusiastic chewing reaches. Think of a chew toy as supporting dental health, not delivering it. Pair regular chewing sessions with an actual brushing routine (dog-specific toothpaste, never human toothpaste) for the full picture.
