Fun Fact:

Did you know the Shiba Inu is Japan's oldest and smallest native breed, with a history stretching back over 3,000 years? They were originally used to hunt wild boar and bear in the mountainous regions of Japan. Tiny, ancient, and absolutely unbothered - some things never change.

FAQs

What size harness does a Shiba Inu need?

Most Shibas fit into a Small or Medium. They're compact but muscular, so measure chest girth and neck circumference carefully - a snug fit is especially important with a breed known for escaping. Make sure to check against our sizing calculator too.

Can Shiba Inus escape from harnesses?

They absolutely can if the harness isn't fitted correctly. Shibas are flexible and clever, and a loose harness is an invitation. Check the fit regularly and make sure you can slide no more than two fingers under any strap.

Are Shiba Inus good off the lead?

Honestly, most Shiba owners would say no - at least not without extremely solid recall training. A long line is the safest way to give them freedom while keeping control as you build this up.

Do Shiba Inus pull on the lead?

They can - particularly when something triggers their prey drive. They can also go the other way and plant their feet entirely. A front-clip harness helps with pulling, and patience helps with the feet-planting.

Why does my Shiba Inu scream when I put their harness on?

The Shiba scream is legendary and completely normal. The key is slow, positive introduction - let them investigate the harness, reward every interaction, and build up to wearing it gradually.
