Dog Fleeces

Same principle as humans - layer up. Start with a close-fitting fleece against the body for warmth, then add a waterproof outer layer for wind and rain protection. Don't forget paws: salt and grit on winter pavements cause cracking and chemical irritation, so paw balm or dog boots are genuinely useful in harsh conditions. For short-coated and small breeds, keep walk durations shorter in sub-zero temperatures. BullyBillows fleeces are cut from high-loft fabric that retains warmth even when damp.

For some dogs, yes. Short-coated breeds, slender builds, elderly dogs, puppies, and dogs who feel the cold more acutely all benefit from a fleece in cold weather. For a Husky or a thick-coated Shepherd who already has their own duvet built in, probably not. If your dog is shivering on a January walk, they're telling you something. A good fleece is not dressing your dog up, it's keeping them comfortable so they can actually enjoy the walk.

You need three measurements: back length (base of the neck/withers to the base of the tail), chest girth (widest point of the chest, just behind the front legs), and neck circumference. Always cross-reference against the BullyBillows size chart rather than going by weight alone - body shape varies significantly between dogs of the same size and breed. For breeds with a deep chest and narrower waist - Staffies, Bulldogs, XL Bullies - measure at the chest, as that's the critical fit point. Getting this right the first time saves a return.

Yes. Gentle or wool cycle at 30°C, then air dry rather than tumble dry. High heat over time affects the fleece pile and reduces loft. Fleece dries quickly and holds its shape well between washes, for active dogs who wear theirs every winter walk, a wash every 2–3 weeks is practical.
