The Chow Chow is a breed that commands respect - and their collar should too. This is a dog with a powerful neck, a dense double coat, and a personality that does not respond well to discomfort or fuss.

For a Chow, look for a wider collar that distributes pressure evenly and avoids digging into that magnificent ruff. Soft-lined options are a must - rough edges will cause matting and irritation in their thick coat. Hardware should be solid and secure without being unnecessarily heavy.

Chow Chows are notoriously resistant to anything they find uncomfortable, so getting the fit right from the start makes life much easier for both of you. Our collars are designed to sit well and stay comfortable - even on the most opinionated of breeds.

Fitting a harness on a Chow Chow requires a bit of patience and a lot of respect - this is a breed that will let you know in no uncertain terms if something doesn't feel right. Get it right though, and a harness makes a real difference to how safely and comfortably you can manage them on a walk.

The Chow's broad, deep chest and thick coat means you need a harness with genuine adjustability. Padded panels are non-negotiable to prevent coat damage and skin irritation, and a secure top clip gives you the control you need without pulling them off balance.

Walking a Chow Chow is a very different experience to walking most other breeds - and we mean that in the best possible way. These dogs are deliberate, dignified and walk on their own terms. Your job as their owner is to stay connected without disrupting that energy.

A shorter, well-made lead gives you the quiet, consistent control that works best with this breed. Chows don't respond well to being over-handled, so a lead that gives you a smooth, even connection without unnecessary bulk is the right call. Padded handles are a nice touch for longer walks.

For younger Chow Chows still building confidence, a slightly longer training lead gives them a little more space to move at their own pace. Our leads are made to handle strong, independent breeds with the quiet confidence they deserve.
